This 90mm HPPE mains water supply pipe comes in a 50m coil, complete with an end closure at each end to protect the pipe from any dust or unwanted substances from manufacturing to installation. Also known as alkathene, this is made from HPPE and fully compatible with approved mechanical, push-fit, compression and electrofusion jointing techniques.
These pipes are produced as a single layer pipe wall construction, with a PE100 black inner and outer. Black outer indicates this is suitable for a diverse range of applications. Traditionally used for non-potable water (sewerage systems), this can also be used for hydroelectricity schemes, geothermal pipework, rainwater drainage, irrigation systems, electric ducting, marine outfall, fish farming (cage frames) and buried fire protection ring mains. This product can also be used for above ground potable (drinking) water mains supply distribution, providing approval has been sought from the water undertaker. Popular for both domestic and commercial properties and suited for use in pipeline rehabilitation projects and in no-dig & open-cut installation methods. For below ground potable applications, you will need a HPPE with a blue outer.
Manufactured by Radius Systems provides the installer with a dependable product that will perform. Unlike previously used materials such as iron or copper, HPPE water main is made from corrosion free material meaning it will not degrade to any great degree with age. Naturally, making it the UK’s manufacturer’s most common choice of material for large diameter water pipe. If you need to connect your HPPE to older materials, adaptors are available.
Specifications include SDR 17 with a maximum 10 bar operating pressure, approved under regulation 31 of the Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2000, BS EN 12201-2:2011+A1:2013 (BS EN 12201 replaced BS 6572).
If you plan to run any water service underground, we would always recommend that the water pipe is buried in the ground inside a blue water duct system. A duct is designed to protect the pipe from damage and alert others to the presence of duct in the ground. Water caution marker tapes are commonly used as additional indications, alerting presence of the pipes. If this is your first time installing ducting, we would always recommend attaching a second drawcord to your pipe as this will enable you to easily install replacements at any point in the future, if required. Your duct system may also need duct access chambers depending on your project, which come in a various sizes to suit.
